In America, the Utah Transit Authority has recently adopted an ordinance that will fine passengers who visit gambling and gaming sites using its free wireless Internet service.
The ordinance was approved late last month with the Authority revealing that the fine for a first violation would be $300 while subsequent penalties could be as high as $500.
Passengers on FrontRunner commuter trains and express buses must be at least 18 years of age to use the Authority’s free Internet service. In addition, users must agree to a set of term and conditions, which include accepting a content filter that restricts access to sites deemed offensive.
Gerry Carpenter, a spokesperson for the Authority, stated that enforcement duties would be handled by a transit police officer. He revealed that those breaking the terms and conditions would be issued with a citation but passengers may appeal.
