Genting Launches its First Online Casino in the UK

Genting International Plc has launched its first online casino brand, CircusCasino.com, in Great Britain. CircusCasino would be run by unit Genting Stanley Alderney Ltd (GSAL) and would offer over 100 casino, card and table games, Genting International said in a recent statement. Genting International, a 53.4% subsidiary of Genting Bhd, operates 44 casinos in Britain. On March 13, Genting International said GSAL had received approval from the Alderney Gambling Control Commission for an online gaming licence and it expected the online gaming business to start in the latter part of the second quarter.

First Online Betting Permits in France in 2009?

France will begin issuing authorization for online betting operators from the second half of 2009 after agreeing with the European Union to open up the market, Budget Minister Eric Woerth said on Friday. The comments follow a meeting between Woerth and Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy this week to discuss proposals that would avert court action against France by the EU over restrictions on online gambling. Brussels has given France a final warning to change its gaming rules or be taken to the European Court of Justice.

First Bookmaker Opens in Spain

Spain's first sports betting shop opened for business on Wednesday, one of thousands that foreign bookmakers hope to launch in the football-crazy nation which already bets more than any other European country.

British bookie William Hill and Spanish gambling firm Codere plan to set up 70 sports betting shops across the Madrid area — the first of Spain's 17 regions to grant licenses — under the joint venture's Victoria brand. The Spanish betting market is expected to grow to 39 billion euros ($57.8 billion) by 2010, with the sports betting market set to hit 4.5 billion euros, according to MECN consultants.
