Their final hand came in stud hi, where Ramdin started off with a pair of eights and improved to queens and eights after a raising war with Negreanu. Though Negreanu had made a pair of sevens on fifth street with running flush and straight possibilities as well, he couldn’t improve and Ramdin’s two pair held up to win him the Team PokerStars Pro Championship and $15,000 to his charity. For Negreanu’s as-always fantastic play he earned $10,000 for his charity.

Blotter: PartyGaming co-founder pleads guilty to wire violation

Tuesday, PartyGaming co-founder Anurag Dikshit pleaded guilty to violating the Interstate Wire Act of 1961. Dikshit faces up to $250,000 in fines and two years in prison.

Dikshit, a Gibraltar resident, was accused of using the Internet to transmit wagers across U.S. state lines. As managing director of PartyGaming between 1997 and 2006, he developed proprietary software for the company’s sites, which offered Internet poker and online-casino gaming to U.S. citizens.

Although PartyGaming abandoned the U.S. market after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was enacted, the corporation noted that the U.S. Department of Justice considered Internet gambling illegal in its 2005 prospectus.

“I came to believe (online gambling) was, in fact, illegal under the U.S. law,” Dikshit said before the U.S. Southern District Court of New York. “I have taken full responsibility for my actions.”

PartyGaming initially stated that Dikshit would not plead guilty, then issued a press release saying, “The Company cannot comment on the accuracy of the report… concerning developments involving Mr. Dikshit, but any such developments are completely independent from those of the Company.

“On the basis of the discussions to date, PartyGaming expects any settlement with the (Department of Justice) to involve a payment by the Company of an amount that is significantly lower than that reported to be paid by Mr. Dikshit in today’s Financial Times. In addition, the Company believes that any such settlement is unlikely to include a criminal plea on the part of the Company or any director.”

Dikshit is PartyGaming’s principle shareholder with 28 percent of the company’s shares. He has agreed to pay $300 million in fines as part of a cooperation deal.

According to acting U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin, Dikshit paid U.S. authorities the first of three $100 million installments and is expected to pay the remaining two installments before Sept. 30, 2009.

U.S. Circuit Judge Jed Rakoff scheduled a sentencing date of Dec. 16, 2010 and set Dikshit’s bail at $15 million.
