Plans for UK Supercasinos to Move Forward?

Posted by admin

Although the UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, symbolically axed Britain's first Las Vegas-style supercasino, it has emerged that 16 gambling palaces would still move forward. Churches and charities warned that casinos with hundreds of slot machines offering £4,000 jackpots would push up crime, addiction and poverty in the most rundown communities.

Mr Brown won plaudits when one of his first acts as Prime Minister was to block plans to build a supercasino offering £1million jackpots from 1,250 one-armed bandits in a deprived area of Manchester. He also ordered a review into the other 16 casinos - raising hopes he would kill off the gambling free-for-all championed by his predecessor Tony Blair. But yesterday, Whitehall sources signalled that eight large and eight medium-sized casinos would go ahead.

Antigua Seeks End to Gambling Feud with US

Posted by admin

Antigua and Barbuda's top finance official said Wednesday he is hopeful that a high-level meeting in Washington with a U.S. trade official could lead to resolution of a dispute over Internet gambling.

Antigua accuses the U.S. of crippling its gambling industry by banning Americans from placing online bets with gambling operators, including those based in the twin-island nation of 70,000 people. Last month, the World Trade Organization backed Antigua's request to target U.S. services, copyrights and trademarks in retaliation for a U.S. online betting ban, but ruled it could impose only $21 million in annual trade sanctions.

Potential New Law Aims to Eliminate Online Poker in Finland

Posted by admin

To put it mildly, a potential amendment to Finland’s gambling laws is absolutely ridiculous.  According to Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will propose an addition to the law which would allow online gamblers to get back their losses.

Are we talking about some sort of tax deduction?  No.  If this amendment becomes an official part of the law, those who lose money playing poker, craps, blackjack, or other forms of gambling on the internet can actually get reimbursed for their losses.  But from whom?  Not from the government.  The money would either come from the person who actually won the money, the online gambling company itself, or the credit card company the player used to make the deposit.
